How to Enable and Edit the Cookie Banner in Squarespace

If your website collects data or uses third-party tools like Google Analytics or Facebook Pixel, you may be legally required to inform visitors about cookies. Thankfully, Squarespace includes a built-in cookie banner you can easily enable and customize.

Here’s how to set it up:

1. Go to Website Settings

From your main Squarespace dashboard, click on Settings in the left-hand menu.
Then scroll down and select Cookies & Visitor Data.

2. Enable the Cookie Banner

In the Cookies & Visitor Data section, you’ll see an option to Enable Cookie Banner.
Turn it on to activate the banner across your site.

Once enabled, a cookie message will appear to visitors until they acknowledge it.

3. Customize the Banner Text

You can edit the default message to match your brand voice or legal requirements.
For example, you might want to include information about what cookies you use or link to your privacy policy.

Use clear, friendly language and keep it concise.

4. Change the Button Text and Style

You’ll also be able to:

  • Edit the button text (such as “Got it” or “Accept”)

  • Change the position of the banner (top or bottom of the page)

  • Choose colors that match your site’s theme, so the banner blends in but remains noticeable

These options are all available in the same panel where you enable the banner.

5. Save and Preview

Once your message and styling are set:

  • Click Save in the top-left corner

  • Visit your site in an incognito/private browser window to preview how the banner appears to new visitors
